Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to identify the contribution of the Community Initiative LEADER, individually or collectively, in public policies for local development and rural development. The research will focus on the area of the municipality Kalavrita. Initially the paper focuses on the transition from agriculture to multifunctional rural development (agrotourism, manufacturing, environmental protection). In addition it examines policies for rural development, in which developed and the Operational Programmes. Specifically, this paper explores how the LEADER, contributed to the development of mountainous and disadvantaged areas in the context of sustainable development which belongs to the new European policy for rural development. Finally the subject investigated through review of both the Greek and the foreign language literature, like the search-related research through the issue of electronic literature. Moreover, it will also be undertaken the views of the local people conducting quality search based on interview guide.
