Abstract

Η άυλη πολιτιστική κληρονομιά αποτελεί πεδίο ζωηρού ενδιαφέροντος τα τελευταία χρόνια, ιδίως μετά την υιοθέτηση διεθνούς συμβάσεως για την προστασία της στο πλαίσιο της UNESCO το 2003. Με τη σύμβαση αυτή η έννοια της προστατευόμενης πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς διευρύνεται περαιτέρω θεαματικά, για να συμπεριληφθούν και οι άυλες εκφάνσεις της (προφορικές παραδόσεις και εκφράσεις, τέχνες του θεάματος, κοινωνικές πρακτικές, τελετουργίες, εορταστικές εκδηλώσεις, παραδοσιακές γνώσεις και τεχνικές κ.ά.), ενώ το κέντρο βάρους μετατοπίζεται από τα αντικείμενα στους ανθρώπους. Συγχρόνως αναπτύσσεται ο επιστημονικός προβληματισμός, σε θεωρητικό και πρακτικό επίπεδο, γύρω από το θέμα, για το οποίο τίθενται πλήθος ερωτήματα, όπως: έχει νόημα η διχοτομία υλικής και άυλης κληρονομιάς; Πώς μπορεί να οριστεί η τελευταία, που είναι ζωντανή και διαρκώς εξελισσόμενη; Πώς μια πολιτισμική πρακτική επιλέγεται και ανακηρύσσεται κληρονομιά και τι συνεπάγεται αυτή η διάκριση; Ποιος είναι ο ρόλος των διεθνών οργανισμών, των εθνικών κυβερνήσεων και των ειδικών, αλλά και των κοινοτήτων που δημιουργούν, αναδημιουργούν και μεταδίδουν την άυλη κληρονομιά, στις διαδικασίες προσδιορισμού και διαφύλαξής της;

Intangible cultural heritage has been a field of keen interest in recent years, especially after the adoption of an international convention for its protection within the framework of UNESCO in 2003. With this convention, the concept of protected cultural heritage is further dramatically expanded to include its intangible manifestations (oral traditions and expressions, performing arts, social practices, rituals, festive events, traditional knowledge and techniques, etc.), while the center of gravity shifts from objects to people. At the same time, scientific discourse is developing, both at theoretical and practical levels, around the subject, for which numerous questions are raised, such as: does the dichotomy between tangible and intangible heritage make sense? How can the latter, which is living and constantly evolving, be defined? How is a cultural practice selected and proclaimed as heritage, and what does this distinction entail? What is the role of international organizations, national governments, and experts, as well as the communities that create, recreate, and transmit intangible heritage, in the processes of its identification and safeguarding?
