Abstract

Στην πληρέστερη κατανόηση της σημασίας του πολιτισμού και της σχέσης ανάμεσα στις πολιτισμικές πρακτικές και τις γεωπολιτικές αναπαραστάσεις έρχεται να συμβάλει ο τόμος Ottoman Intimacies, Balkan Musical Realities, με επιμελητές τους Risto Pekka Pennanen, Παναγιώτη Πούλο και Ασπασία Θεοδοσίου. Πρόκειται για μια διερεύνηση της παρουσίας του οθωμανικού παρελθόντος στη σύγχρονη και πρόσφατη βαλκανική πραγματικότητα μέσα από τη μελέτη της μουσικής. Ο τόμος αποτελείται από έντεκα κείμενα (εισαγωγή και δέκα άρθρα) οργανωμένα σε τρεις ενότητες. Η πρώτη διερευνά ιστορικά και συγχρονικά τη σχέση που διαμορφώνεται μέσα από τη μουσική ανάμεσα στους υπηκόους της Αυτοκρατορίας στη Βαλκανική χερσόνησο και στην κεντρική της διοίκηση. Εξετάζει, ακόμα, τον απόηχο και την παρακαταθήκη των μουσικών πρακτικών της οθωμανικής περιόδου στις μουσικές εκφράσεις της σύγχρονης Τουρκίας κατά τη διάρκεια του 20ού αιώνα ως και τα πρόσφατα χρόνια. Η δεύτερη ενότητα μελετά τις αναπαραστάσεις του οθωμανικού παρελθόντος μέσα από εκφραστικές μορφές του πολιτισμού, όπως η όπερα και ο κινηματογράφος. Η τρίτη ενότητα εξετάζει σύγχρονες μουσικές πρακτικές και περιγράφει τη συγκρότηση διαφόρων εκδοχών μιας κοινής βαλκανικής μουσικής ταυτότητας (κάποια κείμενά της εστιάζουν στους Ρομά) με στοιχεία που θεωρείται ότι επιβιώνουν από το οθωμανικό παρελθόν.The volume Ottoman Intimacies, Balkan Musical Realities, edited by Risto Pekka Pennanen, Panagiotis Poulos and Aspasia Theodosiou, comes to contribute to the fuller understanding of the significance of culture and the relationship between cultural practices and geopolitical representations. It is an exploration of the presence of the Ottoman past in contemporary and recent Balkan reality through the study of music. The volume consists of eleven texts (introduction and ten articles) organized in three sections. The first explores historically and synchronically the relationship that is formed through music between the subjects of the Empire in the Balkan Peninsula and its central administration. It also examines the echo and legacy of the musical practices of the Ottoman period in the musical expressions of contemporary Turkey during the 20th century as well as recent years. The second section studies the representations of the Ottoman past through expressive forms of culture, such as opera and cinema. The third section examines contemporary musical practices and describes the formation of various versions of a common Balkan musical identity (some of its texts focus on the Roma) with elements that are considered to survive from the Ottoman past.
