Abstract

The rural area has been experiencing radical changes for many decades, which had serious consequences for residents. Mainly, these changes relate to new development models and new productions proceedings, which change lifestyle, values and social structures of the residents. These effects are even more noticeable to vulnerable social groups. The most frail and vulnerable group of rural population is the older farmers. The aim of this post graduate course essay is the approach, recording and investigation of living of the elderly in a lowland agricultural - farming community in Cyclades and specifically over one particular village in a lowland community of Naxos, which called "Biblos". Moreover, this writing investigates which factors play an important role in the improvement or deterioration of their's lives quality and also are explained all the primarily social, demographic, economic problems and general conditions that influences their lifestyle of living. Alongside is surveying the needs, views and fears of them. Finally, are stated the problems that they experience by the modern changes in lifestyle, values and attitudes. Last but not least, is also analyzed whether and how are existing cases of social pathology or social exclusion. How appear, what aspects of daily life cover and how they deal with them on their own or which actions are taken by the local community or state.
